Welcome to Parrot Care Center!
If you have been thinking about buying a parrot as a home pet you need to educate yourself first and make sure that this is the right choice for you. Being the owner of a pet is a serious responsibility, as you find yourself being responsible for the well-being of a living creature that cannot communicate with you normally. Reading and acquiring some information about parrots can significantly help you do the best and ensure a happy and long life together.
Parrots usually have a quite long lifespan, as some of them can live up to 50-60 years when properly taken care of. This practically means that once you buy a parrot, you might well have it for the rest of your life. One thing you should know in advance is that parrots are often quite messy and noisy animals, especially if you teach them how to talk; in some cases they scream at particular times of the day, usually the dawn or dusk and they can be a serious disturbance for those who want to relax and unwind after a long day at work (for you and your neighbours!)
Parrots are mostly so they go to sleep around dusk, waking up at dawn. In the wild, they have twelve hours to fulfil their daily needs, but in the house, they experience severe sleep deprivation and disturbances, due to the normal daily activities of their owners. The lack of sleep can make them quite cranky and even aggressive, as this is their way to demonstrate their accumulated frustration.
Learning techniques and proper husbandry from experienced owners can mean the difference between a happy relationship with your parrot, and a lot of stress for both you and the bird!
